As your child grows, they are learning more and developing new skills every day. Preschoolers can begin to take on small tasks around the house, and you might be surprised by the skills they can contribute to help you with household chores.
You may think that involving your child will slow things down, and while it’s true that tasks may take a bit longer, consider the valuable skills your child will be acquiring along the way. One important virtue we are nurturing by having our children assist with chores is patience. Through these simple tasks, your child will learn about teamwork, experience a sense of accomplishment, improve their communication skills, and develop their motor skills.
Will your child need guidance with these new tasks at first? Yes, they will, but once you’ve shown them what to do, they’ll be able to complete the tasks independently. This process is similar to how teachers guide students in the classroom. When teachers take the time to demonstrate how to complete different centers or tasks, students learn how to do them on their own.
Here are some chores your child can help with:
- Help put away groceries
- Help load and unload a front-loading washer and dryer
- Dust furniture with a soft wipe
- Put away folded clothes
- Sweep the floor
- Put clothes in the laundry basket
- Sort clothes by color
Encouraging your preschooler to help with chores not only teaches them important life skills but also fosters a sense of responsibility and teamwork in your home.
A Few Reminders:
If you signed up to bring something in for the Thanksgiving Feast, please send in your items to Mrs. Sharkey.
BRRRRRR…….It’s cold outside! Please send your child to school with the appropriate cold weather gear each day. We will be outside unless it is raining or the temperatures are below 20 degrees.
As a reminder: if you have a child at home who will be eligible for preschool next year, please complete an intention form as soon as possible. This will allow us to include your family in the registration process which will be opening in early February. To be eligible for preschool for the 2024/2025 school year, students must be 3 on or before July 31, 2025 for the 3 year old program and 4 on or before July 31, 2025 for a 4 year old program.
